What are your plans for celebrating Thanksgiving this year? What are you looking forward to the most?

I’ll get us started …

Every Christmas and Thanksgiving my husband, Steve, and I alternate between our two families. Having his parents in the bay area of California and mine in Pennsylvania, it was the only fair formula we could come up with. Based on that rotation, we will be spending Thanksgiving in Pennsylvania with my family this year, and I couldn’t be more excited! There really is no place like home, and I can’t wait to enjoy my mom’s traditional Thanksgiving feast while spending time with the family! What I’m looking forward to the most though is being with my entire family! As we get older, it gets more and more difficult for my three sisters and me to all wind up in the same place (we all live in different states), but this year that’s exactly what will be happening. All 9 of us will be bunking up in my parents’ home tucked up in the scenic mountains of Central Pennsylvania catching up, laughing, and just enjoying our time together. My heart is so full just thinking about it 🙂

Okay, it’s your turn!

Form an acrostic of things you appreciate about your spouse, family, and/or life with the word “THANKFUL”? Feel free to explain your word choices.

I’ll get us started …

T – Trustworthy: How thankful I am that I can trust my husband enough to be vulnerable with dreams, fears, thoughts, ideas, and emotions that I otherwise wouldn’t share with someone.

H – Health: What a blessing it is to have our health. So many are fighting for their lives out there, and it’s easy to take our health for granted.

A – Awesome: I have an awesome family that I can share with, talk to, laugh with, cry with, and count on to pray, support, and encourage me no matter what.

N – Noble: This is a word that describes my husband well. I am so thankful for the godly man that he is!

K – Kindhearted: I feel like this describes my husband and my family so well! I honestly have never met a kinder, more thoughtful, generous, and loving bunch than my loved ones, and I so admire that about them!

F – Fun: My husband, Steve, and I have the best time together! Whether it’s grocery shopping, watching a movie, traveling, and everything in between, we have a blast together, and I love that!

U – Understanding: I appreciate that I can go to my husband, family, and friends and find understanding there. There’s something about knowing they are listening and care that makes the burdens of life that much lighter.

L – Love: To love and be loved is simply one of the greatest joys of life.

Okay, it’s your turn!

What are your favorite ways to say “thank you” to your spouse or significant other?

I’ll get us started …

One of my hubs’ primary love languages is words of affirmation, so this is something I’m always trying to make sure I keep in mind. When you stop to think about it, there are a lot of ways to let someone know you appreciate them, but one of my favorite ways is with a sweet love note. I will pick up some cheap cards at the store so I have a stash, and from time to time I will just write my husband a note to let him know how much I love and appreciate him. Once it’s all written out, I will leave it somewhere I know he will find it like on his pillow, in his car, by the bathroom mirror, etc. It’s a simple gesture that I know my husband appreciates.

Okay, it’s your turn!

What is one thing you are thankful for today?

I’ll get us started …

It’s always tough to pick just one thing I’m thankful for because the Lord has been so good and gracious to me. He’s blessed me with so much, and it’s difficult to limit His goodness to just one thing. For the sake of this “exercise” though, the one thing I am thankful for today is that God has given me the most wonderful earthly partner to do this life with – my husband Steve. God knew just what I needed, and although the road was bumpy in finding in him, I am so thankful I was patient and strong enough to wait for God’s best. My husband is such a wonderful companion, co-pilot, best friend, and leader, and his love for me constantly points me back to God’s love for me. My marriage, my husband – they are the greatest blessings in my life, and I am beyond thankful that the Good Lord entrusted me with these treasures!

Okay, it’s your turn!

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

I’ll get us started …

I feel like there is so much to be thankful for that it’s tough to list it all out. God has blessed me with so much to be thankful for that it overwhelms me at times. It’s like that feeling you get when you just love someone so much you think your heart might burst. That’s how my spirit feels with gratitude toward God; He is faithful, generous, and constant. From my incredible husband to our amazing families; our health, home, and all needs met; the warm sun, twinkling stars, and big blue sky; feeling there’s a purpose and plan for my life.

Every day we are surrounded by so much to be thankful for, and yet, we’re often too busy to notice. Or we’re so fixated on what we don’t have that we miss out on what we do have. It’s a challenge, but I try really hard to stop and count my blessings because it’s pretty amazing how many there really are.

Okay, it’s your turn!

Noteworthy: Made For Me

Thursday, October 4th, 2012

When I first heard this song, I couldn’t stop the corners of my mouth from creeping upward into a smile. Not only did I find myself doing a little jig to it, but I enjoyed the playful nature of the song’s lyrics. Despite being jovial, this song also brings about an important message to the table … enjoying our spouse and celebrating our differences.

Before I reveal the song, I have a few questions for you to ponder. Do you enjoy your spouse? Do you take time to just laugh, talk, and be together? Do you stop to think about all of the wonderful things about your husband or wife?

It’s easy to forget that we married our spouse because we actually enjoy and like them. We get caught up in being an efficient team that we often miss each other completely and soon drift apart when the friendship dies. Part of having a great marriage is keeping that friendship strong and reminding one another of the companionship and enjoyment that comes from being together.

That’s why I loved, Toby Mac’s song Made For Me off of his new album Eye On It which just dropped the end of August. While I love the whole album, this song was one that warmed my heart and made me want to take a few moments to consider just how much I appreciate my husband, Steve. The lighthearted tone of the song can’t help but make you want to snag your special someone, and do something fun … maybe even some silly dancing to it in your living room. Hopefully when you hear it, your hearts will well up with gratitude for your spouse … so much so that it spills over into some affirmation and acts of love toward him/her.

Let me know what you think …
