Noteworthy

By Ashley McIlwain

I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that no one will ever love my husband as much as I do. There are so many things I know about him that no one else ever will. Many of his little nuances and mannerisms have only been discovered by me. All of the incredible talents, characteristics, and qualities about him could not be admired or appreciated more than I do. I am his number one fan, and I love that man more than anyone ever could or will.

One of my favorite pictures from Steve's and my wedding day :)

On the new hit show, Nashville, I heard a song that captured the essence of this concept that no one will ever love my husband like I do. The song, in fact, is called No One Will Ever Love You, and the chorus blatantly states, “No one will ever love you. No one will ever love you. Like I do.” I couldn’t have said it better myself.

When I play this song, I get whisked away to a place of admiration for my husband. I can confidently say that no one will ever love him like I do. That statement goes beyond a sentiment though. It’s also a bit of a reminder and commitment. I’m not just professing my love for Steve, but it’s also a proclamation that I will live in a way that I’m constantly affirming, confirming, and showing this bold statement to be true. That’s a day in and day out commitment to make him feel loved and adored.

While I know that no one will ever love my husband like me, I want to make sure he knows it too J Anyone else feel the same way?

I hope you all enjoy this song. Let me know your thoughts! Like it? Love it? Leave it?

Noteworthy: Give Into Me

Thursday, March 1st, 2012

By Ashley McIlwain

Recently my husband, Steve, and I were snuggled up watching the movie True Country, and although I wasn’t a huge fan of the message of this movie, I did discover one of my favorite new songs that I couldn’t wait to share with you all. It comes part way through the movie, and as soon as I heard it, I fell in love with it.

Whenever I turn this song on, I have to crank it up. It paints this portrait of two people in love working to win one another’s hearts. It reminds me of falling in love with my husband and how hard we both work to keep falling in love with one another each and every day over and over again.

The lyrics are playful and powerful all at the same time. It’s just a great love song called, Give Into Me, and I’ll admit that I’m borderline obsessed with it at the moment. From its sound to its lyrics, I can’t stop listening to it.

Alright, alright, I will stop rambling on and let you decide what you think of it for yourselves. Hopefully you enjoy it as much as I do!

Oh, and here are a couple of my favorite lyrics from the song:

Talking Tuesday

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

Share your thoughts, feelings, and stories as well as respond to others regarding these questions:

Do you and your spouse/significant other “have a song?”

If so, what is it, and how did you choose that to be your song?

If not, why not?

I’ll get us started …

Yes, my husband Steve and I have a song. It’s Making Memories of Us by Keith Urban. Steve actually picked it out as part of an incredible, romantic, sweet night that he planned to ask me to officially be his girlfriend. It was so adorable, and I absolutely love the words of the song. To this day when I hear that song I can’t help but smile at all the memories and love we have shared together through the years … and all the ones to come! I love how the mere melody evokes so much happiness, sentiment, and love within me.

Speaking of my husband, today is our wedding anniversary! Happy Anniversary Steve!!! You are the absolute love of my life, a gift from God Himself, and the true treasure of my heart! Each day with you is the greatest day of my life, and I fall more and more in love with the man you’ve been, the man you are, and the man you aspire to be!!! I love you!!!!

It’s your turn!

Noteworthy: Making Memories of Us

Monday, September 12th, 2011

By Ashley McIlwain

My husband’s and my anniversary is September 13, and as the day approaches, a special song comes to mind. Our wedding song.

It’s amazing how a melody drifting through the air can fill your mind and senses with all sorts of emotions. A string of notes can connect your heart to all the memories you’ve shared while listening to their sweet tune. With each chord, something within us is struck.

There is no other song that harkens so much within me as Making Memories of Us by Keith Urban. My husband Steve picked that song out for us back when he asked me to be his girlfriend. The words were perfect for us – our journey to coupledom as well as the adventures we would soon set out on together. We certainly have made many, many memories together along the way that fill me with such joy as I reflect on them. The best part is the excitement that comes with the anticipation for all of the memories yet to be made and enjoyed by us.

The chorus says, “I’m gonna love you like nobody loves you, and I’ll earn your trust making memories of us.” Every day with my husband, I love him more than the day before, and I try to convey that through my words and actions. Marriage is like a quilt of memories sewn together with love, time, and commitment. It’s an incredible journey that we get to enjoy and savor.

As Steve’s and my anniversary rolls around, it’s the perfect time to remember “our song” that we have listened to together so many times, danced to for our first dance as Mr. and Mrs., and the song we will play over and over again throughout the years to come in our life together. It’s also the perfect opportunity to take time to remember all of the memories of us.

Just the Way You Are

Monday, November 29th, 2010

It’s rare that there is a pop song that inspires me. While their tunes and tempos might be catchy, their messages are rarely moralistic, let alone encouraging. The other day though, a song came on that struck a chord with me (pun intended).

It’s a song by Bruno Mars called Just the Way You Are, and it made me think twice. I found myself feeling encouraged, inspired, and shocked at the surprisingly important message. The song is about a girl who is perfect in his eyes despite how she might feel about or view herself. Now ladies, I know we all have a ton of insecurities, and there is a tremendous amount of pressure around us to be prettier, thinner, more stylish, and a whole plethora of other unrealistic and unattainable things. Hearing the words to this song reminded me of things I have heard my husband say like, “Honey, you don’t need make-up! You are most beautiful when you aren’t trying to be.”

Obviously it is important to take care of yourself, but this song just reminded me that our men are with us for a reason. While we may be feeling like we are one giant flaw, they are relishing in our strengths and qualities.  Next time your guy goes to compliment you, resist the urge to fight him on it. Instead, close your eyes and soak it in. Then, give him a kiss and let him know how much you love hearing things like that. Here are the lyrics to the song:

Bruno Mars – Just the Way You Are

Oh her eyes, her eyes
Make the stars look like they’re not shining
Her hair, her hair
Falls perfectly without her trying

She’s so beautiful
And I tell her every day

Yeah I know, I know
When I compliment her
She won’t believe me
And its so, it’s so
Sad to think she don’t see what I see

But every time she asks me do I look okay
I say

When I see your face
There’s not a thing that I would change
Cause you’re amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you’re amazing
Just the way you are

Her nails, her nails
I could kiss them all day if she’d let me
Her laugh, her laugh
She hates but I think its so sexy

She’s so beautiful
And I tell her every day

Oh you know, you know, you know
Id never ask you to change
If perfect is what you’re searching for
Then just stay the same

So don’t even bother asking
If you look okay
You know I say

When I see your face
There’s not a thing that I would change
Cause you’re amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you’re amazing
Just the way you are

The way you are
The way you are
Girl you’re amazing
Just the way you are

When I see your face
There’s not a thing that I would change
Cause you’re amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you’re amazing
Just the way you are
