Talking Tuesday

What is your spouse’s (or significant other’s) favorite candy? What’s your favorite candy?

I’ll get us started …

I find that it’s extremely important to know the favorite candy of your spouse. You never know when you’ll need candy handy for a peace offering or a thoughtful surprise for your sweetie. It’s a simple and smart thing to have in your bag of tricks.

My husband, Steve, has two favorite kinds of candy – gummy peaches (not peach rings) and gummy grapefruits. If I want to put a smile on his handsome face, I just strategically place a bag of one of these sugary delights for him to find with a love note. Works like a charm.

As for me, I have two favorite candies as well. Probably my all-time favorite is peanut M&Ms. I could sit down with a giant bag of these and devour them in one sitting by myself (which is why I usually steer clear of buying them). Next in line are gummy Lifesavers. They are just pure deliciousness. Like me, my hubby uses these sweet treats as a way to make my day from time to time.

Okay, it’s your turn!

Haven’t thought about candies for him lately but way back some 20 years when we were dating, he’d pick a bar of Tootsie Roll sometimes. My all time fave is still peanut M&M’s for sure but when I worry about my tonsils, I’d grab a small pack of Fox’s, assorted colors.

Peppermint Patties and dark chocolate from See’s.

  • Vicki Says:

my husband has a huge sweet tooth and will often bring candy home to share with me. Which, he did yesterday. My all time favorite candy is smarties. I also like reese’s peanut butter cups and twix. My husbands favorite candy is sweedish fish. He also loves 1000 grand bars and nutrolls. He is not supposed to have candy since he is diabetic. This is why he often brings home candy “to share”.

    • Ashley McIlwain Says:

Vicki, wow, Smarties brings up so many childhood memories for me. What a great candy that I totally forgot about. Swedish fish are a classic too. Sorry to hear your husband is a diabetic; I know that can be quite challenging (my grandma was a diabetic), but at least that means he gets to share with you :) Thanks for joining the conversation!

  • Melisse Says:

My husband likes anything with white chocolate! I like starbursts and kitkats :)

  • Jerry Says:

Oh yea, thanks for the idea of the love not with the candies.

  • Jerry Says:

My wife loves chocolate truffles with nuts and Nestles Krunch bars. I think she can go through a bag/box of chocolate truffles in a matter of minutes, if I’d let her and the same with the Nestles Krunch bars. As for me, the Reese’s Peanut Butter bars and the other thing I love, not a candy, but, Macadamian nut cookies. When I go to Subway for my footlong Tuna sub, I load up on their Macadamian Nut cookies.

    • Ashley McIlwain Says:

Jerry, thanks for joining the conversation! Your wife has good taste in candy, as do you :) This conversation has been reminding me of all the great candy that’s out there. Glad you liked the idea for a love note with the candy too. You’ll have to try it out.

  • Erin Says:

Hmmm, my favorites are bit o honeys, black licorice and kitkats. My husbands are red licorice and licorice bites as well as m&ms. I love the memories associated with the candies. It’s always a pick me up.

    • Ashley McIlwain Says:

Erin, I was with you and your husband on everything but black licorice. My husband loves it, but not me! It’s true that there are some great memories associated with candy; that’s a great point! Thanks for sharing!

  • Rick Says:

Touching the mind and heart through the sensations associated with sweetness,…thought and fond memory provoking, Ashley. I am taken aback in my mind’s eye to a younger time when dating my dear wife. I recall, with fondness, just how much she loved Clark Bars, a Pittsburgh confection, back then. Brings back memories of dating some 37 years ago and excursions to the city, where a warehouse had a huge mural of a large Clark Bar on its side, as a very large reminder of candy my sweet wife enjoyed,…and yes, I have surprised her with them on special occasions, and probably as peace offerings on more times than I care to admit. Now my thoughts of her favorite candies,…add to the Clark Bar, ZagNut, Mary Janes, Bit O’Honey,…oh yeah,…and let’s not forget a particular love for gum,…like Black Jack, Clove, Juicy Fruit, Teaberry. Wow, perhaps, I could design an arrangement of flowers interspersed with all her favorites!! Delightful strolling down memory lane and to my dear wife’s sweetness,…got to go…to the candy store,…flower shop….!

      I loved this entry.

    • Ashley McIlwain Says:

Rick, what a sweet response (pun intended)! It’s precious to get to walk down a 37 year memory lane with you and your wife. It’s amazing the details you remember. Who would have thought candy would have so many ties and memories associated with it? Love the idea of a flower arrangement interspersed with your honey’s favorites! Thank you so much for sharing; your thoughts were so encouraging and adorable!

Ricinda, that makes two of us!

  • Ricinda Says:

Sweet treats always come to mind on holidays. For Easter this past weekend I bought those Reese’s peanut butter eggs for him.

    • Ashley McIlwain Says:

Ricinda, thanks for kicking off the conversation! Easter definitely entailed some candy for us, which inspired today’s Talking Tuesday :) My hubs got me those Reese’s peanut butter eggs too. It’s hard to not eat too many at once.
