What’s been one of your favorite moments so far this summer with your loved ones?

I’ll get us started …

My husband, Steve, and I have had a jam-packed summer. From the word go, we’ve been traveling, entertaining, rendezvousing, and generally running around like chickens with our heads cut off. It’s been a blast though, and we feel like we’ve made the most of every moment, as we usually do.

Some of my favorite moments this summer were getting to spend time with family. My oldest sister, her husband, their little girl, my mom, and my dad all came out for a visit the beginning of June for some incredibly special and blessed time together. Then I got to head home to Pennsylvania in mid-July to visit with my family, which is always a welcomed trip (There’s no place like home!). Other than that, celebrating my husband’s and then my birthday made for some super fun and much needed alone time with my sweetheart! The fair, quality time with friends, summer concerts on the lawn, and food truck meet-ups are all little adventures we’ve taken advantage of. Plus, there’s still more to come! Honestly, I love summer with its sunshine, long days, and fun to be had!

Okay, it’s your turn!

This weekend my wife’s mom, sister, and aunt came to the family reunion which is held in different cities, every other year. This year it was here in Little Rock, Arkansas. It had been about 9 years since she had seen her mom and sister. It was a very emotional time for them. I was very excited for them, so I took care of the cooking and cleaning so they could spend as much time together as possible. Then, there was the family reunion also. It was phonomenal time. It was held at the Holiday Inn Presidential Hotel, one of the more prestigious hotels in the area and I met a slew of her relatives. The main event was an semi-formal dinner and dancing, had to break out some old steps! We had a great time and my wife looked just as lovely as she did the first time I laid eyes on he. She is truely my Evangalene. If you’re wondering who Evangalene is, watch “The Princess and the Frog,” when you get a chance.

Jerry, that sounds like a real blast! It’s so incredible having precious moments with family like that, and I applaud you for not only allowing it but encouraging it! I think it’s absolutely vital for us to encourage, support, and build the relationship with our spouse’s family. Sounds like a great time was had by all at your wife’s family reunion, and I am overjoyed at your sweet attitude and view of your wife! Thanks so much for sharing!

By far, getting to go home and spend time with mom and dad and go to Creation as well as a visit with Ricinda, Stephen and Victoria were my highlights. I love spending time with family!

    • Ashley McIlwain Says:

Erin, there really is no place like home! Plus, Creation is tough to beat; I wish I could have gone! I love spending time with family too; it’s the best! If only we could do it more often! Thanks for sharing!

My favorite memories this summer are of sitting around a bonfire with my husband, his parents, brothers and their spouses and children. It is quite a big group and usually a ton of fun.

    • Ashley McIlwain Says:

Vicki, thanks for joining the conversation! It sounds like bonfires with family are a common theme this summer, and I love it! Is there anything better than quality time with loved ones?! Glad you guys can get together like that!

  • HeatherT Says:

My favorite moments of the summer are a direct result of a recent decision to resign from my teaching position to become a stay at home mom. I love waking up early with my husband and preparing for the day by reading some much needed Scriptures. Being there when my kids wake up… not having to wake them up and run them off to someone’s house…. and spending quality time with them throughout the day has been a blessing! But the best moment of all is when my husband affirmed that this is the best decision we have ever made. He noted that the house has never been cleaner and we have not had this much free time on our hands in a long time. Happy husband = happy wife!

    • Ashley McIlwain Says:

Heather, what an incredible opportunity and blessing to get to stay at home with your kids, maintain your home, and take care of your husband! That’s something that doesn’t exist all that often these days, so it’s incredibly refreshing to hear that you and your husband not only made that decision, but that you are enjoying that decision. This makes me so happy to hear! Happy spouse, happy house :) Thanks for sharing Heather!

Family memories-and definitely our zoo trips/fish feeding frenzy.

  • Jeff Says:

Sitting in the back yard with my family – my bride, three adult children, their spouses and the nine grandchildren laughing and playing everywhere. It simply does not get any better than this for me. There is no scenery, weather choice, food or entertainment that even comes close!

    • Ashley McIlwain Says:

Jeff, that sounds absolutely amazing! It reminds me of my the week leading up to Steve’s and my wedding. We were back home in PA, and each night everyone got together in my parents backyard for games, bonfires, cookouts, and quality time together. Those are some of my favorite moments, so I can appreciate your family gatherings. What a blessing! Thanks for sharing!

  • Delta Says:

My favorite moments this summer have been spent at the beach with my siblings and our significant others. What a great group of 6 people! There’s always plenty of laughter to go around!

    • Ashley McIlwain Says:

Delta, thanks for kicking off the conversation! What a blessing to have such a wonderful group of people to fellowship with! It’s amazing what a difference that companionship and laughter makes in life.
