When You Got a Good Thing

Most of us have experienced difficult times in our relationship at some point or time, especially if you are married. Life is full of obstacles waiting to trip us up. Honestly, it sometimes feels like it would  just be easier to pack up, move on, and not look back rather than bear down and fight through it.

The “easy way out” is an illusion. It seems easy, but it’s one of those gimmicks where if it seems too good to be true, then it probably is. The reality is that walking away from a marriage is anything but the easy way out. Just ask anyone who has been through a divorce. Every relationship will be filled with challenges because we are a flawed, human being married to another flawed, human being. Shocking, I know. Your marriage is worth fighting for … in the big and small challenges of life. Whether good or bad, you’ve got a good thing.

A song by award-winning country trio Lady Antebellum called When You Got a Good Thing captures this concept so perfectly. It’s a sweet song that just tugs on my heart strings in a way that encourages me to hold on to the good thing that I’ve got with my amazing husband. Sometimes it’s just hearing that affirmation that can bring clarity, strength, and encouragement. For me, this song is just one of those great songs that provides a little inspiration and support for my relationship with my husband, and I love that.

Here is a glimpse at the song’s lyrics:

Everybody keeps telling me I’m such a lucky man
Looking at you standing there I know I am
Barefoot beauty with eyes that blue
Sunshine sure looks good on you, I swear
Oh, I can’t believe I finally found you baby
Happy ever after after all this time
Oh there’s gonna be some ups and downs
But with you to wrap my arms around I’m fine

Chorus
So baby, hold on tight
And don’t let go
Hold on to the love we’re making
‘Cause baby when the ground starts shaking
You gotta know
When you got a good thing

You know you keep on bringing out the best in me
And I need you now even more than the air I breathe
You can make me laugh when I want to cry
This will last forever, I just know
I know

Repeat Chorus

We got a good thing, baby
So hold on tight baby
And don’t let go
Hold on to the love we’re making
‘Cause baby when the ground starts shaking
You gotta know
Oh, you gotta know
Oh, you gotta know
You gotta know
When you got a good thing

How inspirational and awesome is this song? I just love it and had to share it because I think it might encourage you in the same way it encouraged me. Erin, I agree. Good things are not common things when it comes to relationships. When we have amazing people in our lives, we must cherish them and treat them with the love they deserve. Thanks for your sweet comment! Appreciate hearing from you!
